Leave No Stone Unturned
The stones in question in this eccentric lecture are the gravestones of famous people from English history. We learn off-beat facts about their (often eccentric) lives and talk about the ways in which they - or their executors - chose for them to be commemorated. So often we overlook the fact that all the people we learnt about at school are buried somewhere and this amusing presentation introduces us to some cemeteries and graveyards that are, today, so little studied.
The period covered in this lecture is wide ranging and includes well known figures from Bess of Hardwick to Florence Nightingale and the Dukes of Portland to Jerome K Jerome.
As well as their places of burial we also look at portraits of some of our subjects and the houses in which they lived.
